Wilhelmina Antwi
Professional Bio
Wilhelmina Antwi is pursuing a Ph.D. in Mass Communication and a minor in African Studies at Penn State. She holds an M.A. in Communication Studies from Kansas State University and a B.A. in Communication Studies from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ). Her research interests include science communication, specifically public understanding and engagement with science, the rhetoric of science, and public interest communication, with a focus on developing countries. Wilhelmina is the recipient of the 2023/2024 Excellence in Communications Doctoral Award from the Bellisario College of Communications, the 2024/2025 Graham Award at Penn State, and the A.Q. Miller School's Bill Schenck-Hamlin Research Award at Kansas State University.
Before transitioning into academia, Mina worked as a content producer on the Political and Communication Team at the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office in Accra (British High Commission). While at GIJ, she served as the Multimedia Manager for GhScientific, an NGO focused on promoting STEM education and communication in Ghana. Additionally, she worked with Siro360, a media house, where she excelled as a photographer, events representative, and social media strategist.
Through her work and studies, Mina aims to contribute towards equitable access to scientific knowledge, particularly in developing countries.
